The evolution of the events in Spain could not be alien to those developed in the world, and particularly on the European continent. Therefore, politically the turn of the century is marked by the crisis of the Ancien Régime and the first attempts to construct a liberal regime, very influenced by the fate of the French revolutionary process and the Napoleonic Empire. Thus, the Napoleonic invasion of 1808 will cause the reaction of the traditional ruling classes, who fear the distribution of land among peasants, a repeat of what happened in France and organized the resistance against the invaders during the War of Independence (1808 - 1814), giving rise to the first project of the liberal state by the Cortes of Cadiz, embodied in the Constitution adopted in 1812.
